About Us

China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) in May 2010 founded the Sex Hormone Research Center, where Professor Chawn-shang Chang of the University of Rochester, the US, was brought in to take charge. Professor Chang has contributed substantially to androgen and cancer research in the US over the past 30 years. Since 2003, Professor Chang led several Taiwanese young scholars pursuing advanced studies at the school in the study of national diseases hepatitis and liver cancer from the perspective of the androgen receptor, and their efforts have met with great success.

The team found that androgens play a role in promoting or inhibiting the growth of cells of bladder cancer in the majority of men and of prostate cancer that only develops in men, or even women's breast cancer, multiple ovarian cancer, and endometrial cancer. The focus of the research after the establishment of the center is to clarify its mechanism and expect clinical integration.

The center is to gradually determine the androgen's key role in bladder cancer, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, gynecologic cancers (e.g. cervical and ovarian), and liver cancer, hoping to provide a clear direction for targeted cancer therapies.
