About Us

The center, formerly known as the Clinical Research Center, was renamed the Clinical Trial Center (CTC) in 2008 to promote clinical trials in the hospital as the main mission.

As of 2010, Professor Chung-yi Hsu has served as the center chief. Under Professor Hsu's leadership, the center has been supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for the promotion of the center for several years. Professor Hsu's management philosophy is to provide quality and efficient clinical trial services at international level with the sponsors and principal investigators (PIs) as its first priority, in a bid to assist domestic and overseas firms to conduct clinical trials and facilitate the early launch of new drugs or new medical materials.

At present, the center has been the preferred cooperative institution for many big pharmaceutical companies worldwide (e.g. Novartis, Pfizer, and Senofi.) as well as the contract research organizations (CROs). The number of contractors has increased year by year. By October 2017, the center had signed with at least 242 manufacturers and carried out over 887 clinical trials and protocols.

The center consists of five supportive teams with different functions:
  1. Administration: responsible for reviewing and managing clinical trial contracts, managing the specimen room and protocol funds, controlling project funding and reimbursement, and document storage and management.
  2. In-house SMO: provides clinical research nurses with clinical trials and offer the subjects the most immediate, perfect, and professional care.
  3. Academic research organization (ARO): assists contractors or PIs with the submission of protocols for review and supervision of their quality.
  4. Training/Education: gives professional training courses, face-to-face and online credit courses, and organizes domestic and overseas clinical trials activities.
  5. DryLab: supplies big database statistical analysis services required before the publication of clinical research papers
