Elderly care
Aging society has become a common issue to be faced by all countries across the world. According to statistics from the Department of Health, the number of babies born in 2010 nationwide was only around 170,000, down 15% from 200,000 of the previous year, which might result in advancing the time when Taiwan becomes a super-aging society in 2050 to 2040 as predicted by the World Health Organization (WHO). Therefore, it is urgent to develop elderly care medical materials required by an aging population. In view of this, the center has developed a matrix-based pressure sensor, which can not only be applied to when seniors are sleeping at home, fall, or going out of bed, but also be used in the hospital’s Nursing Department for the detection of patients going out of bed in case of accidental falls. It is hoped that this device can help families and nurses pay attention to the patient's out of bed activity to avoid unnecessary accidents.
Neurological rehabilitation and evaluation
For patients undergoing surgery for stroke, neurodegenerative disease, or brain injury, there is a lengthy process of an aggressive rehabilitation program after discharge, resulting in the burden imposed on family members and patients themselves. Thus, the center has developed an intelligent rehabilitation machine with brain wave detection, and has collaborated with the Rehabilitation Department in translational research. We hope to study a prospective rehabilitation program combined with this intelligent rehabilitation machine for rehabilitation and evaluation of patients with cranial nerve damage, in a bid to shorten rehabilitation time, enhance rehabilitation effect, and reduce the burden placed on patients, family members, and health insurance.
