The Bariatric Surgery Department is headed by Dr. Lee Min-Hsien. He has achieved phenomenal success in weight loss surgery. The Bariatric Surgery Department is the medical center with the largest number of cases in weight loss surgery in Central Taiwan. Owing to the tacit understanding of teamwork, the total number of cases has exceeded 1,500 so far.
The center offers special treatments including laparoscopic gastrodotomy, laparoscopic gastric bypass, diabetic laparoscopic surgery, laparoscopic gastric banding, reconstruction after the laparoscopic weight loss surgery, laparoscopic digestive system surgery, etc.
Laparoscopic sleeve resection surgery
Principles
Also known as the stomach shrinking surgery. The laparoscopic surgery conducts partial resection of the original stomach to form a sleeve-shaped stomach, which retains only 1/3 of the stomach, whose capacity is only about 100cc. The weight loss effect is achieved by reducing the stomach capacity and food intake.
Advantages
After the surgery, gastrointestinal life quality will be good without the dumping syndrome.
After the gastric resection, the secretion of ghrelin can be reduced, and there will be no hunger.
The wound is small, the pain is reduced, and there is only a single incision, where the wound can hardly be seen.
Based on follow-up tracking results in the long term, weight loss can be easily successful without risk of getting fat again.
Notes
Stomach resection is not reversible.
A small number of patients can experience postoperative gastroesophageal reflux, which can be treated with drugs though.

65 to 70% of body weight can be reduced.
Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery
The Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery will divide the stomach into two parts, the large stomach and the small stomach.The capacity of the small stomach is about 20 ~ 30cc, which limits food intake, and part of the small intestine is bypassed to reduce the absorption effect.
Advantages
Good effects on weight loss: fast weight loss, follow-up tracking results in the long term. After weight loss is successful, the rate of relapse in obesity is low.
The Quality of life can be greatly improved.
It can improve diabetes, control with good effects.
The wound is small and the pain is less.
The gastric bypass surgery has been included by the World Diabetes Foundation as one of the most effective treatments for obesity and diabetes.
Notes
The surgery is more complicated.
Daily supplementation with synthetic vitamins is recommended. A small number of patients may require trace elements (long-term supplementation with iron, calcium, folic acid, vitamins and other nutrients may be required in the long term).
High-protein diet is recommended after hospital discharge.
Postoperative patients should have a diet recommended by the weight loss team.
Weight loss ratio:
70 to 75% of body weight can be reduced.
