2024/9/3

Relation between skin cleansing and wound infection after operation

Bathing or showering with soap or antibacterial bath/shower agents on the day before or on the day of operation can effectively reduce the bacterial colonies on the skin and the rate of wound infection after operation.

Benefits of bathing/showering before surgery

  • Cleansing skin
  • Decreasing bacterial colonies on the skin
  • Reducing postoperative wound infection

Bathing/showering methods before surgery

  • Clean the body with soap or antibacterial body wash one day before or on the day of operation.
  • Apply the product and scrub all over the body from top to bottom, then rub again after rinsing (with steps as shown on the back).
  • Strengthen the cleaning of the surgical site.

Chlorhexidine (CHG) body wash

  • Body wash containing chlorhexidine can be combined with skin for 48 hours, with long-term antibacterial effects, mildness and no skin irritation.
  • Effectively prevent surgical site infection and avoid pathogenic bacteria invasion and migration.

Suggested steps for using antibacterial body bath before operation

  1. Apply antibacterial body wash (2%CHG) directly to the neck below the chin (do not apply it directly to the face).
  2. After rubbing and foaming, wash from top to bottom. Rub the body slightly hard and strengthen the sweat-prone parts (e.g. armpit).
  3. Continue to apply antibacterial body wash (2%CHG) to the whole body and wash from top to bottom and to the crotch (please follow the medical staff's instructions to strengthen the cleaning of specific parts).
  4. Make sure you have contact with antibacterial shower cream (2%CHG) all over your body and leave it for at least 30 seconds before rinsing it off.
  5. After rinsing it off, repeat steps 1 to 4.
  6. After washing, dry your body with a clean bath towel and change into clean clothes (do not apply lotion or other products).

Precautions for using antibacterial body wash

  • This preparation is for external use on the skin only. It should not be taken orally, nor should it be used in the ears, eyes or mucous membranes.
  • Do not mix with detergents or other chemicals (e.g. iodine tincture, iodine, saline, lotion).
  • In case of irritation, dermatitis or allergic reaction (skin redness and swelling), please rinse the skin with plenty of water, stop using it immediately and seek medical advice.

Warning: People who are allergic to the ingredients should not use it.
